$100 Deuce

One last hurrah in the TGR uniform.
I traveled to Washington DC on Friday with my buddy Kyle and Justin Dickman. We got in to DC about 3:00, headed down to the marathon expo via the metro, picked up our stuff and then headed back to the hotel. Justin had some business to take care of before he moves out their this summer, so he took off and Kyle and I went to get some food. We ate some pizza and a local pizzeria, and drank a few beers at the UNO Chicago Grill before heading back for the evening.
Going in to the race I figured I could run somewhere under 2:35 and still get into the prize money if things went well, so I went out just behind the leaders and sat in 5th or 6th place for the first 6-8 miles. As the pace slowed, the eventual runner-up, myself, and Charles Kamindo (my Kenyan roommate for the night) continued to run about 5:35-5:40 pace. Charles eventually dropped out around mile 11, which left the other guy and myself.
I basically sat on the guy until about mile 15 where I had to make a pit stop. I was feeling very well, and then it hit me. As we came up towards the port-a-johns, I peeled off and did my business. At this point, I knew I had just cost myself the runner-up position, as I never got back in to rhythm after that.

As the race continued, I never gained any ground on him and wound up in third place, back by about 50 seconds. My pit stop cost me $100 bucks, thus the title 100 dollar deuce!
It was a great weekend. My time wasn't blazing, but it was another sub 2:30. Of the 9 marathons that I have ran, 5 have been 2:30 or faster, and this was my 6th top 10 finish.
*on a side note, I have a possible Hernia that will need to be taken care of so DC may have been my last race for a while!

Black Monday

As many of you may know by now, TGR will be no more. Unfortunately for Tim, it sounds as if the racing team is not what he envisioned, as well as too much work, effort, time, etc. with too little rewards and appreciation. I'm sure it was a very tough decision for him to make, but I wanted to show my support and gratitude for him and all that he has done for TGR and team run-insight.com over the past 8-10 years.

Although I'm disappointed, I respect the decision that he has made and hope that the rest of TGR can do the same.

Thank You Tim!

Hoppy Easter

The Easter bunny found his way to the Moody house-hold this morning and delivered us some great weather and candy. The resurection of the Easter Bunny is always a good reason for the season. Bible-bashers don't be mad, I know today was the day that the ground-hog saw his shadow.

Speaking of shadows, I don't understand why our camera takes such bad photos inside. They're always dark.

Besides the bad photos, today was great. Good food, decent gatherings, and Myles and I got in about 11 miles on the day. Happy Easter and God Bless!

Bracketology

My bracket is busted....Need I say more. I'm sure that UNC will carry me through to have enough points to win the office pool. Oh wait, everyone else picked UNC too. Never mind! Consider my $$$$ a donation.

I win!

4 X800 was a wash. Times were slow (so I won't embarraa them or me) and there were tons of junior high kids in the way. I look forward to beating them later in the year when I'm more fit and so are they.

Me vs. You 4 X 800

My guys at track have been talking trash lately so I've decided to race both of my 4 X 800 teams for bragging rights. Thurs. is the day when all will go down. I get to pick the teams, so I will try to make it as competitive as possible. I could load up a team that would mop me, or I could make it close so all three teams (their two, and me) will be close. I'm hoping the weather will hold out for us tomorrow. I haven't seen them this jacked for a race in a long time. I don't know whether it is good that I can hang with 4 members of my high school team or not, I haven't decided yet.

Results will be posted tomorrow evening bymidnight!

Myles Ventura

Maybe he's not mine???

I've got lots of great video footage from a fantastic Moody weekend, but I'm struggling to get it uploaded. When I figure it out, you'll see it.

#100

It's been 10 days (last post) in the making and just shy of a year, but today is my 100th blog post. Now I realize that I've been slacking off the past few days, but I'll catch you up to speed.

Friday March 2nd, 2008:I raced a 3k at ONU, My wife started having contractions (8 weeks out) and didn't tell me.

Tuesday March 4, 2008: We go to the OBGYN and they give her a sonogram? and see that she is having contractions about once every 10 minutes... "Here we go again!" another pre-me is all I could think. She got a steroid injection to help with lung development for the little tyke and they gave her some muscle relaxers to help stop contractions.

Friday March 7, 2008: Another sonogram, 1 contraction in 45 min. The medicine is working.

Tuesday March 11, 2008: Yet another sonogram, Dr.'s don't seem too concerned anymore, but rescheduled another apt. for next Tuesday.

Meanwhile during all this, they put Kylee on bed rest and she is not allowed to do anything other then sit on her tush. Family and friends have been crawling out of the woodwork to help us out, as I just started track on Monday and can't cook, clean, do laundry, potty train Myles, work, run, stay sane, etc. without a little help. I don't think I've had to cook for the past 7 days. One would think someone was dying b/c of the amount of food that is in our house. The help is appreciated, but I feel smothered by everyone coming/go/helping.

We are about 34 weeks (Friday) if I'm not mistaken. If the baby comes within the next week, we will have to deliver over in Ft. Wayne b/c of facilities. If we make it another week or so we will be able to stay in VW. The past few days (10-12) have been nuts. I'm exhausted, which is not a good way to start with a new one on the way.

Out with the old and in with the new

Kylee and I went to Ft. Wayne today to test drive the new Hyundai Veracruz to see if it would be the next vehicle for our family. Because our family is going to be growing, we felt that we needed to get a larger vehilcle that could handle the workload and provide us with enough room to haul all of our belongings when we travel. When we got to the lot, we test drove an ugly "khaki" color (sorry to whoever bought it on Sat. because it did sell), and decided that we did indeed like the car. We have been talking for quite a while now about which car to trade in, our 2003 Hyundai Sante Fe, or my 05 Neon. Because we still owe quite a bit on the Neon we opted to get rid of the Sante Fe for our trade. Long story short, we got our new ride and love it. Bells and whistles galore, and Myles is also happy.
